What is OE Spore Infection?

 

OE spore infection is caused by a spore producing protozoan. Malaria is caused by a similar protozoan. OE spore infection is a serious threat to Monarch Butterfly population. Scientists are fighting a war with this OE spore.

Where Can We See Butterflies?

Undoubtedly Butterflies can be seen throughout the year where full succession of blooms provide them nectar. Otherwise butterflies migrate else where in search of nectar.

  • Butterflies lay eggs singly or in groups for the sake of egg protection.
  • Eggs may not hatch if weather conditions are adverse.
  • The Highest Speed of Butterfly is 12 miles for hour.
  • Some category of Caterpillars live on water plants.
  • Before laying eggs, the butterfly carries out a leaf test to fix the suitable plant for the larvae.

 

Asclepias plant is the main source of food for Monarchs.
Monarchs migrate in search of these plants.

What are Perches?
A perch is a support consisting of a branch or rod that serves as a resting place for Butterflies and Birds in man made Garderns. It is a landing base for Butterflies to spread their wings and warm up. The temparature is also a main factor for butterflies to visit the Gardens.The temperature is 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit

 

The Word Butterfly…

 

The old English word for Butterfly was BUTTORFLEOGE, meaning an insect that steals milk. A similar word in Dutch has the same meaning. According to a folktale in Great Britain, the Brimstone Butterfly was called a fly of butter, because of its color. The word Butterfly seems to have many roots.
